The Terminals of Thessaloniki International Airport (SKG)
Thessaloniki International Airport "Makedonia" has two terminal buildings: the Main Terminal (T1) and the New Terminal (T2). Together they handle all domestic and international flights for northern Greece. The terminals are adjacent and connected internally by a pedestrian footbridge, so it is easy to move between them. SKG was extensively renovated under Fraport Greece, modernising both buildings and expanding capacity.
The Main Terminal (T1)
The Main Terminal handles both domestic and international arrivals and departures, with check-in counters, security lanes and passenger services across several levels.
Ground Floor – Arrivals
- Domestic & international arrivals and baggage claim.
- Buses: the bus terminal is in the Arrivals area, in front of Exit 4.
- Taxis: the official taxi rank is in the Arrivals area, between Terminals 1 and 2 (between Exit 3 and Exit 4).
- Car parks and rental-car desks are a short walk from the terminal.
Upper Floors – Departures
- Check-in halls for all carriers (Schengen, non-Schengen and domestic).
- Boarding gates after security.
- Food, drink & retail: cafés, bakeries and restaurants (landside and airside), duty-free shops, convenience stores and newsstands.
- Business lounges (see below).
Airport Lounges
SKG has four business lounges, all airside: the AEGEAN Business Lounge (Ground Floor, Departures) and the Prima Vista Lounge, "The Lounge" Thessaloniki and Skyserv Lounge (all on the 2nd floor). Access is by airline status, lounge membership or paid entry, depending on the lounge.
The New Terminal (T2)
The New Terminal is a fully modern building that added capacity for growing and seasonal traffic, used mainly for international flights.
- 28 check-in counters
- 12 boarding gates
- Spacious duty-free and expanded retail
- Restaurants, bars and cafés
- Arrivals on the ground floor; departures and boarding on the upper floor
Transfer Between Terminals
Moving between the Main Terminal and T2 is quick: the buildings are linked by an internal pedestrian footbridge, walkable in a few minutes.
- Clear bilingual signage (Greek & English) throughout.
- No shuttle bus is needed, as everything is walkable.
- Step-free access with lifts and ramps along the corridor.
Thanks to SKG's compact layout, getting around is straightforward even at peak times.
