Are you looking for a train from Thessaloniki Airport (SKG)? There is no train, metro, or rail station at the airport. Even the Thessaloniki Metro, which opened in late 2024, does not reach SKG. To travel by rail, you must first go to the New Railway Station (Stathmos Thessalonikis) in the city centre, about 13 km away. From there, you can take an intercity or regional train. Here are the best ways to reach the station.
Airport to the Railway Station: Options at a Glance
| Option | Time | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport bus 1X / 1N (OSETH) | ~40 min | €2.00 (reduced €1.00) | Budget; runs day & night |
| Taxi | ~25–30 min | Metered (higher 00:00–05:00) | Speed, luggage, late arrivals |
| Private transfer | ~30 min | Fixed, pre-booked | Fixed price, direct service |
All three drop you at or next to the New Railway Station. Full details below.
1. Airport Bus to the Railway Station
The OSETH airport bus is the most economical way to reach the main railway station. Lines 1X (daytime) and 1N (overnight) run directly from the airport to the city centre, the New Railway Station, and the "Makedonia" KTEL coach station.
- Travel time: about 40 minutes
- Fare: €2.00 (reduced €1.00)
- Where to board: Arrivals area, in front of Exit 4 of Terminal 1; buy tickets at the OSETH booth or machines
Alternatively, line 2X connects the airport to the Nea Elvetia transfer station, where you can board the Thessaloniki Metro and ride directly to the New Railway Station.
2. Taxi or Transfer to the Railway Station
A taxi from the official rank reaches the railway station in about 25 to 30 minutes. Fares are calculated by a meter, with a higher night tariff applying between 00:00 and 05:00. Taxis wait outside the Arrivals area, between Terminals 1 and 2. If you prefer a fixed price and a driver waiting for you upon arrival, you can pre-book a private transfer.
