Unlike Athens, Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) has no rail link. There is no railway, metro or train station at the airport itself. The Thessaloniki Metro, which opened in late 2024, does not reach the airport either, so to travel by train you first need to get into the city.
How to Reach the Railway Station from Thessaloniki Airport
Thessaloniki's New Railway Station (Stathmos Thessalonikis) can be reached from the airport in two main ways:
1. Airport Bus to the Railway Station
The OSETH airport bus is the budget link to the main railway station. Lines 1X (daytime) and 1N (overnight) run from the airport to the city centre, the New Railway Station and the "Makedonia" KTEL coach station.
- Travel time: about 40 minutes
- Fare: €2.00 (reduced €1.00)
- Where: Arrivals area, in front of Exit 4 of Terminal 1; buy tickets at the OSETH booth or machines
Line 2X also links the airport with the metro transfer station at Nea Elvetia, where you can change onto the Thessaloniki Metro.
2. Taxi to the Railway Station
A taxi from the official rank reaches the railway station in about 25 to 30 minutes. Fares run on the meter, with a higher tariff between 00:00 and 05:00. Taxis wait in the Arrivals area, between Terminals 1 and 2.
