Unlike Athens, Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) is not connected by rail. There is currently no suburban railway (Proastiakos), no metro, and no train station serving the airport directly. Therefore, passengers who wish to travel by train must first reach the city center.
How to Reach the Train Station from Thessaloniki Airport
To access Thessaloniki’s Central Railway Station (Thessaloniki New Railway Station – Stathmos Thessalonikis), travelers must use one of the following:
1. Airport Bus → Train Station
The airport bus is the only public transport option connecting SKG to the main train station.
- Day Bus 01X: Airport → Railway Station → KTEL Station
- Night Bus 01N: Airport → Railway Station → KTEL Station
Travel time: ~40 minutes
Fare: 1.80€ (reduced 0.90€)
Frequency: every 20–30 minutes
The bus stops right outside both Arrivals and Departures. Simply exit the terminal and look to the right for the bus stop.
2. Taxi → Train Station
A quick and comfortable option to reach the Central Railway Station is a taxi.
- Duration: 25–30 minutes
- Day fare: 24€
- Night fare: 32€ (00:00–05:00)
Taxis are available 24/7 outside the terminal building.

- The 01X and 01N buses are the only direct public transport to the railway station.
- If you have heavy luggage or limited time, a taxi is the fastest option.
- Train tickets can be purchased at the station or online through Hellenic Train.
Although SKG Airport lacks a direct rail link, access to Thessaloniki’s Central Railway Station is easy via frequent buses and taxis — ensuring smooth onward travel throughout Greece and neighboring countries.
